Whether your family uses Ways2Raise or chooses another route, these are the practical foundations we recommend for every young person working towards a school trip, DofE, Scout expedition or adventure abroad.
Set them up together once. Then let your EdVenturist take real ownership, safely and with support close by.
This is not a to-do list. It is a safe base.
These three decisions make it easier to communicate clearly, manage money honestly and keep family oversight where it matters. They are useful whether a teenager raises £20 or £2,000, and whether they use Ways2Raise or not.
A dedicated shared email.
Open one new email address for the trip or project. A parent or guardian should create it and keep the password, then share access with their EdVenturist. That means the young person can write to companies, send grant applications and reply to supporters in their own voice—while a parent can see the inbox and sent mail too.
It is a simple way to build confidence and communication skills without leaving a teenager to manage contact from strangers alone.
A dedicated space for fundraising money.
Keeping money raised separate from everyday family finances makes the journey much easier to understand. Your EdVenturist can see money coming in, genuine costs going out and what is really available for their goal—just as a small business keeps its money organised.
It turns every sale, donation and receipt into a useful lesson in budgeting, planning and honest record-keeping.
Start with easyfundraising.
easyfundraising is a sensible first EdVenture because it teaches a teenager how to spot an opportunity, explain it clearly and help adults use it. Instead of visiting a retailer first, supporters start at easyfundraising, choose their retailer and shop as normal. The retailer can then make a cashback donation to the chosen cause.
It will not replace practical EdVentures, but it can build in the background over time—especially when adults in the family’s network understand how to use it.
